How to create effective goals with Goalite

Goal setting is a powerful way to turn your dreams into reality. By setting clear and specific goals, following the SMART goal methodolgy, you can focus your efforts, track your progress, and achieve your desired outcomes. However, not all goals are created equal. Some goals are vague, unrealistic, or irrelevant, which can lead to frustration, disappointment, or failure. That's why you need a smart and systematic approach to goal setting, which is what Goalite offers.

Goalite

Goalite is a website that helps you create effective goals that are aligned with your vision, values, and purpose. It guides you through a simple and intuitive process that consists of the following steps:

1. Add a dream

A dream is a big and bold aspiration that inspires you and motivates you. It is something that you want to achieve in the future, but it may not be very clear or specific yet. For example, your dream could be to travel the world, start a business, or write a book.

To add a dream, you need to enter a short and catchy title that summarizes your dream. For example, "Travel the world" or "Start a bakery". You also need to add a description of why you want to achieve this dream, what it means to you, and how it will benefit you or others. This will help you stay motivated and focused on your dream.

2. Make it specific

A specific goal is a goal that is well-defined and measurable. It answers the questions of what, how, and when. A specific goal helps you plan your actions, monitor your progress, and evaluate your results.

At Goalite we use SMART goals and our definition of SMART is Specific, Motivating, Achievable, Relevant, and Trackable. Creating a goal follows this approach to give you the best way of fulfilling your dreams. For example, a specific goal could be to visit 10 countries in Europe in one year, or to sell 100 cakes per month in your bakery.

To make your dream specific, you need to add the following information:

  • What: What is the exact outcome that you want to achieve? This will be the units you will measure and the target you are aiming for. For example, "Visit 10 countries in Europe" or "Sell 100 cakes per month".
  • How: How will you measure your progress and success? For example, "Track the number of countries visited on a quarterly basis" or "Record the number of cakes sold each week".
  • When: When will you start and finish your goal? For example, "Start on January 1, 2024 and finish on December 31, 2024".

3. Create milestones

A milestone is a significant point or event in your goal journey. It marks a partial achievement or a progress check. It helps you break down your goal into smaller and more manageable steps, and it gives you a sense of accomplishment and motivation. For example, a milestone could be to visit France, Germany, and Italy in three months, or to sell 25 cakes in the first week.

We're currently reworking milestones and the following is coming soon!

To create milestones, you need to add the following information for each milestone:

  • Title: A short and descriptive name that summarizes the milestone. For example, "Visit France, Germany, and Italy" or "Sell 25 cakes".
  • Objective: A measurable and achievable target that indicates the completion of the milestone. For example, "Visit three countries in Europe" or "Sell 25 cakes in one week".
  • Tasks: Optional tasks that you need to do before or during the milestone. For example, "Book flights and hotels" or "Bake and decorate cakes".
  • Tactics: Optional tactics that you can use to improve your performance or overcome challenges. For example, "Use travel apps and guides" or "Offer discounts and free samples".
  • Time: A start and end date for the milestone. For example, "From January 1, 2024 to March 31, 2024" or "From February 1, 2024 to February 7, 2024".

You can create as many milestones as you need, but make sure they are realistic and relevant to your goal.

4. Start your goal

Once you have added all the information and planning for your goal, you are ready to start your goal journey. You can activate your goal by clicking on the start button, and you will see your goal overview, where you can access all the features and tools that Goalite offers.

While your goal is active, you can update the progress of your goal or milestone task at any time. You can also add a comment to the update to provide extra context, feedback, or reflection. For example, "Visited France, Germany, and Italy. It was amazing!" or "Sold 25 cakes. It was harder than I expected".

Coming soon, you can also tick off the tasks within each milestone as you complete them, and see how they contribute to your objective. For example, "Booked flights and hotels" or "Baked and decorated cakes".

You can also set up notifications as needed to remind you to update your progress and add comments. You can choose the frequency and the type of notifications that suit you best. For example, you can receive a daily email, a weekly text message, or a monthly phone call.

If you are a Pro subscriber, you can also pause your goal if you need to take a break or deal with an unexpected situation. This is useful if you are on holiday and unable to move your goal forward, or if you face a personal or professional challenge that requires your attention. You can resume your goal when you are ready, and adjust your plans accordingly.

5. Checkpoints

Checkpoints are coming soon!

A checkpoint is a snapshot of your goal at a given point in time. It shows you how much progress you have made, and if you are on track to achieve your goal. It helps you review your performance, celebrate your achievements, and adjust your plans if needed. For example, a checkpoint could be at the end of each milestone, or at the end of each month.

The updates and comments will appear in the checkpoint, along with a progress bar and a status indicator. You can view the checkpoint at any time, and compare it with previous checkpoints.

6. Achieve your goal

The final step is to achieve your goal, celebrate your success, and fulfil your dream. You have worked hard and followed the process, and now you have reached your desired outcome. You have turned your dream into reality, and you have learned a lot along the way. You should be proud of yourself and enjoy the rewards of your efforts.

To achieve your goal, you need to reach at least 100% progress. You will then see a congratulatory message. You can also share your goal and your story with others, and inspire them to pursue their own dreams.

Goalite is more than just a website. It is a tool, a guide, and a partner that helps you create effective goals, achieve them, and fulfil your dreams.
